Dear Birth Family,
A baby is brought into this world out of love, and we know it is with love that you are considering making an adoption plan for your child. We hope God will guide you on this journey and pray that he will fill your heart with peace and strength as you face this most difficult decision. We are excited that our journeys have crossed and thankful that you are taking some time to get to know us and what we can offer a child. We are Richard and Kimberly Reed, a fun-loving, happy, and caring couple who are looking forward to becoming first time parents. Our journey has been one of faith, love, and courage much like yours; we just took a different road. You see, Kimberly was diagnosed with cancer in 2005 and our world was turned upside down. We spent about a year and a half fighting that disease and it took everything we had emotionally but won in the end. Kimberly has now been in remission for over 3 years but due to her treatments she is unable to carry or birth a child. That leads us to where we are now, adoption. Because we have a strong marriage, love to share, and open minds we feel prepared to become parents of a child through open adoption. We choose open adoption because we feel like it is the best option for everyone involved. This experience will allow the child to be loved by both the birth parents and adoptive parents. It will also enable the child to receive answers and stories that will make his or her life whole.
We first met in 1992 at a 4th of July party. Never having met before we had an instant attraction and a passion for each others company. We dated for a 1 yr and then became engaged. We were engaged for 4 yrs.; yes you heard right 4 yrs. Kimberly wanted to graduate from college before getting married, so that is what we did. We were married May 3, 1997. That day two people became one, and we have spent the last 11 yrs. living each day to the fullest. We believe we are each other’s soul mates, and love spending time together. We live in Stephenville, Texas only 12 miles from Dublin where we were both raised. Richard works at Tarleton State University as a Maintenance Tech., and Kimberly is a Vice President at First Financial Bank. We are members of First Baptist Church Stephenville. We have a 12 yr old Boston Terrior named, Spanky, who does not know he is a dog. He has been our only child for 12yrs and he goes everywhere we go. Our favorite pass time is camping. We own a travel trailer and love the outdoors. We camp year-round it does not matter if it is 100 or below freezing. While camping we enjoy hiking, cooking, swimming, canoeing, fishing, board/card games, and most of all those quiet times and our great conversations. We also enjoy working in our yard and fixing things around the house. Over the past 16 yrs we have been blessed with 19 nieces & nephews and 2 God-children who have enriched our lives. Now we feel like we have built a strong relationship based on love and trust and we are ready to share our lives with a child. We plan to provide a stable home and teach our child strong moral values. We will both continue to work after we receive a placement. Therefore, we are seeking licensed in-home daycare as an infant, and then we plan to enroll the child in Tarleton’s Child Development Program. We pray that God blesses us by completing our family with a child.
Why Richard loves Kimberly (Age 34)…
Kimberly is the best part of my life. I thank God everyday for bringing her into my life. She is the women I had dreamed of my whole life. Kimberly gives me hope, makes me laugh, loves me unconditionally, and most of all she has made me a better person. I love every kiss, how she looks at me when we are out with friends, and I know I have found the love my heart was looking for. Kimberly’s personality shines everyday through her big beautiful eyes and bright smile. She is full of energy, outgoing, optimistic, organized, smart, funny, caring, and emotional. Kimberly is going to be a one of a kind mom, someone who can be the comedian, educator, provider, and caregiver all rolled into one package. Her heart is overflowing with love to share with a child.
Why Kimberly loves Richard (Age 42)…
Richard is my best friend, soul mate, lover, and life partner. I love every minute of every day that I get to spend with him. He has a great personality, one that is camouflaged when strangers first meet him. He is more on the shy side, so it takes him awhile to warm up to people, but once he does people see the Richard that I love with all my heart. He is kind hearted, strong, funny, loving, gentle, supportive, dedicated, and has lots of energy. He is the kind of husband I thought only existed in fairy tales, but now I can say that I have my true Prince. I love the way he makes me feel, like his Princess, as he holds me high on a pedestal for everyone to see and admire. Richard remains young at heart, which is what draws children to love him. He will be an awesome dad, someone who teaches, guides, laughs, cries, and supports his child in every way. I cannot wait for his love to enrich a child’s life.
