To be a family through the Buckner Waiting Texas Children program, a family is not required to become licensed as a foster family. However many of the same requirements apply.
Potential adoptive parents must:
• Have an interest in working with the type of children Buckner serves.
• Be interested in providing a permanent home for children.
• Have a high school diploma, G.E.D or the ability to demonstrate skills in reading, writing, and solving basic mathematic equations. The applicant must also possess the ability to learn in an academic setting.
• Be legally married and have been in the marriage relationship for at least one year and two years if there has been a divorce. (Unmarried, single applications also eligible to apply.)
• Be at least 25 years of age and there must be no more than 45 years difference between the age of the child and the applicant.
• Be financially secure as appropriate for their age, occupation and the community in which they live.
• Have income sufficient for the normal additional expenses incurred by adding a child to their family, paying the adoption fees and legal expenses for finalizing the adoption prior to reimbursement.
• Have provision for financial security in case of the death of the wage earner.
• Have life and health insurance, as well as a copy of a will.
