If inquiring applicant/applicants meet the criteria, a Buckner Waiting Texas Children adoption packet is provided to the individual or family.
This packet includes:
• An application with reference forms
• A listing of needed documents such as: physical exam/TB testing, pet vaccination, a floor plan of home, photos of the front and back of the home, verification of income, a will, medical and life insurance, birth certificates, marriage certificates and information for a criminal background or “reason-to-believe finding abuse check.”
• Other documents may be requested in the course of a home study such as divorce decrees, military discharges, etc.

The period of time to become approved as a potential adoptive parent(s) may vary between four to six months depending on the completion and submission of paperwork, training and assessments.
The following is to be used as a reference when involved in the process:
• Applicant/applicants will review initial screening policies to ensure eligibility
• Contact local Buckner staff to submit application for consideration
• Buckner will contact applicant/applicants for status of inquiry (approval/denial)
• Participate in an interview with Buckner staff
• Enroll and attend P.R.I.D.E Training - 10 modules (30 hours total)
• Enroll and attend Adoption Preparation Training (6 hours)
• Participate in home study, interviews, and assessments
• Fee of $1,000 payable in installments during the training process (refundable after the adoption consummation)
• On-going assessments will determine the number of children for which the applicant/applicants can be approved
• Review and approval of the applicant/applicants
• Buckner adoption worker will begin submitting your home study to DFPS for consideration as adoptive parent(s) of waiting children
• On-going contact/visits and support
• Continuous specialized training is provided
• FBI background check or Fingerprinting
Buckner has adopted the Foster Care P.R.I.D.E. curriculum (Parent Resources for Information Development and Education) developed by the Child Welfare League of America as the orientation and assessment model for foster/adoptive parent applicants.

During the course of the training modules, home visits and interviews with all family members will be conducted by Buckner staff as part of the assessment process and mandate by the Minimum Standards for Child Placing Agencies.
